Those Volvo Commercials With A “Lean On” Cover

The first of these Volvo commercials debuted back in October, but I never wrote about it. The original has some nice driving scenery, prominently featuring planes and windmills. The newer version focuses more on the faces of the Volvo’s young passengers. Both use an acoustic, hipster-y cover of Major Lazer’s 2015 EDM megahit “Lean On.” The lyric “fire a gun” is conspicuously changed to “into the sun” to make it more appropriate. And that cover is performed by Squeak E Clean Studios and Kit Conway of the band Stello.

Those Kraft Mac & Cheese Commercials With Enya’s “Only Time”

Enya’s “Only Time” is a smooth and soothing song. But if you’re above a specific age, it will probably bring back one very specific association: 9/11. So it seems like an odd tune for these brief Kraft Macaroni & Cheese spots, where parents struggle to get their kids to eat dinner before the kiddos blissfully devour some Blue Box. I guess irony was what they were going for though, like its usage in Volvo’s widely-viewed and critically acclaimed “Epic Split.” And now I’m watching “Epic Split.” Haha…good stuff.

Volvo Wants You To Explore This Summer

There’s not a whole lot to say about this Volvo commercial, other than it’s freakin’ beautiful..the visuals, copy, and music. The song is “Julian” by Say Lou Lou. Well done.
