TurboTax Free 2019 Really Emphasizes That It’s Free

TurboTax has a funny new campaign to advertise its Free 2019 edition. It uses various parodies of film…a courtroom scene, an action movie credits scene, and my favorite, a stereotypically inspiring football story. All of them repeatedly use “free” throughout…you know, to emphasize the freeness of TurboTax Free 2019. Elsewhere, TurboTax also has a Live edition where you can speak to a tax expert in real-time. That especially comes in handy when a woman named Lena (played by Adriana Trajkovski) wants to avoid interacting with a tech bro named Chad. Cat-culator…haha. The fact that Chad and Stacy are names used in the commercial also doesn’t seem like an accident.

TurboTax Says “At Least Your Taxes Are Free!”

TurboTax only advertises heavily for a few months each year, so it makes sense that they’d go all in during that time. A few days ago, I wrote about a TurboTax ad starring a dancing teddy bear that’s been getting great feedback. Now they have a campaign featuring people who find the silver lining in the worst situations. You may have fallen overboard off a cruise ship or had a car fall on you, but hey, at least your taxes are free!

TurboTax Uses A Teddy Bear To Show That Doing Your Taxes Isn’t Scary

I’ve done my own taxes ever since I was 16. It’s one of those things that seems daunting at first, but really isn’t that bad. One of the reasons it was easier for me is that I used TurboTax, which did most of the work for me. I just inputted the numbers from my returns, and TurboTax did the rest. In this new ad, TurboTax nails down the point that there’s nothing to be afraid of. A woman is cowering in a closet, while foreboding music plays. A shadowy figure approaches and she opens the door in terror. Why it’s just a small teddy bear dancing around! That’s not scary. Though some might argue that a squeaking, dancing teddy bear is a tad bit creepy. The woman now just looks confused more than anything. It’s a funny spot that’s getting rave reviews online. Anyone know who plays the woman?

David Ortiz Smashes Tennis Balls (And Various Other Stuff) In TurboTax’s New Ad

It’s a new year, which also means that it’s the start of tax season. I’ve done my own taxes since I was 16, typically using TurboTax. While doing your taxes can be annoying, TurboTax always seems to make it easier. And getting a refund is great…about 83 percent of returns got one last year. Some tax experts argue that it’s better to have less taken out in the first place, and not get a refund. But for me, I just like having a check come in those depressing winter months…money from stuff I did last year.

So onto the TurboTax commercial. This amusing spot stars the newly retired David Ortiz. “Big Papi” hung it up in October, retiring as probably the most beloved Boston Red Sox player ever. He also may have had the greatest last season ever. So now he’s putting his hitting ability to use in a new side job…as a tennis instructor. We see him practicing his craft perhaps a little too zealously at a snooty-seeming tennis club. He smashes a car windshield, knocks food off a waiter’s platter, beheads a statue, causes a fire, and embeds a tennis ball into a wedding cake. All with his mighty swings. The problem is that Big Papi’s losing so many balls in the process. Not to worry though, the helpful TurboTax support woman tells him that he’s able to deduct the cost of the balls. So useful. Then we see that his next lesson is with the lady whose windshield he smashed at the beginning. The tennis player in pink is played by Ilka Urbach, the TurboTax woman is Brenda Romero, and the befuddled groom is Eric Satterberg. Love it! David Ortiz bashing the hell out of things is a great advertising trope.

TurboTax Says It Doesn’t Take A Genius To Do Your Taxes

It’s the new year, which means tax refund season is rapidly approaching. I love tax refunds…it’s like getting money back for stuff you did last year. I’ve done my taxes since I was 16, and TurboTax has made this seemingly intimidating task quite easy. In this new campaign, TurboTax utilizes real geniuses like theoretical physicists Dr. Michio Kaku and Dr. S. James Gates, Jr and Nobel Laureate Dr. George Smoot to show us average people that you need not be as smart as them to do your taxes. You can do it, guys!

TurboTax Will Help You Through Unexpected Life Changes

It’s that magical time again…tax season. I’m a huge procrastinator, but as soon as my W-2s come in, I do my taxes. There’s nothing better than getting money back for stuff I did last year, and I want that refund ASAP. So I’ll be using TurboTax pretty soon. In the meantime, I’ll have to be entertained with this TurboTax campaign. It shows various humorous situations where you could face unexpected life changes that would affect your taxes, from Mardi Gras to a rather eventful wedding.
