Old Italian People Hate Pizza Hut

Pizza is a traditionally Italian food. Pizza Hut is decidedly different than that standard, and they’re changing even more with their new “The Flavor of Now” menu. So in this new campaign, Pizza Hut shows its new offerings to grumpy old Italians, who don’t like it, or any other “modern” things. I’m not really sure what the point of this ad is, but it’s quite lame and fake.

Do Well At “Pizza Hero” And Domino’s Might Just Hire You As A Pizza Chef

In the continuing not great economic climate, a job is a job is a job. Any job is better than nothing. But still, this Domino’s commercial strikes me as…odd. If you do well at the “Pizza Hero” iPad game, Domino’s might just hire you as a real Pizza Chef. Yay? Though it’s noted in the fine print that “playing or doing well on the Pizza Hero game does not guarantee employment at a Domino’s store.” I suspect there’s something more to this promotion, and people that get hired as a result will appear in a future commercial. Domino’s is known for using real employees in their spots. I think it’s about time for Domino’s to try a new advertising angle. Yes, I get it: they used to really suck, but they now apparently suck less. Though I haven’t tried the new Domino’s, since they don’t deliver to my house despite being closer than a few places that DO deliver.

DiGiorno Pizza & Cookies: The Best Idea Ever

These guys remind me of JD and Turk from Scrubs.

It’s been a few months since the introduction of DiGiorno Pizza & Cookies, and honestly I’m stunned nobody had started it sooner. The Consumerist reports that Nestle’s recent purchase of DiGiorno from Kraft allowed this beautiful marriage to happen. Also new from DiGiorno is its Pizza & Wyngz box, complete with the obnoxious spelling that suggests regular wings are too uncool for the kiddies.

Looking at the consumer base of frozen pizza, two stand out for me. One is busy families with children. The other is drunk/stoned collegians. Being more familiar with one than the other (guess which one?) I can say it’s brilliant. As an aside, I’m surprised you don’t hear about more kitchen fires occurring in college apartments. College students are often intoxicated and thus forgetful, inexperienced in the kitchen, and living in hilariously crappy dwellings.

So how do Pizza & Cookies stack up? Kelley from The Impulsive Buy gives it a good, but not great rating. But at 2 AM on Saturday night, I’m thinking the rating goes up exponentially.
