Wendy’s Shows A Woman Who’s Breaking Up With “Basic Mike”

“Basic Mike” is boring. He uses the password “password”, and everything he owns is grey. Even his cute cat. Meow. He thought she liked Basic Mike, and she did, but that was before she had Wendy’s Made to Crave chicken sandwiches. Poor Basic Mike. The woman is played by Corsica Wilson, and Basic Mike is James Skinner.

DirecTV Says People Who Like Cable Also Like Banging Their Head On A Low Ceiling

Though if we’re being nitpicky, the guy bangs his head on a beam, not the actual ceiling. Anyway, DirecTV is back with a funny new commercial created by Grey about the unfortunate nature of cable. People who still like cable also are fans of drinking spoiled milk, camping in poison ivy, getting paper cuts, and having their arm trapped in a vending machine. It was also amusing to watch this one during Sunday football when it would immediately be followed by an ad about how cable is better than DirecTV.

Bonus video: While we’re talking about humorous new DirecTV ads, here’s one featuring Peyton Manning as “The Commish” of his fantasy league.

Pantene Shows NFL Players Doing Their Daughters’ Hair

The NFL is a league with all sorts of PR problems. So it’s nice to see a commercial that demonstrates a softer side to NFL stars. And that’s exactly what happens in this Pantene spot, created by Grey. DeAngelo Williams, Jason Witten, and Benjamin Watson all give (and struggle to give) their young daughters a “Dad-Do.” Aww.

Vodafone’s “The Kiss” Is A Beautiful Piece Of Film

Sometimes the best commercials don’t feel like commercials at all. I know I’ve said that on here many times, but it really is true. That’s definitely the case with this beautiful new ad for British telecommunications company Vodafone, created by Grey London. As the title indicates, Vodafone’s spot shows a couple’s passionate kiss that extends from adolescence throughout life and into old age. We’re only aware that it’s an advert in the last 10 seconds when the words “good things should last forever” introduce Vodafone Red. Exquisite cinematography, an original-ish idea (the -ish is only there because it’s somewhat reminiscent of this also great KFC ad from South Africa), and haunting music (“Walk” by Ludovico Einaudi) combine for something that definitely feels like an award winner.

Cable DVRs Are Apparently Worse Than DirecTV’s Genie

DirecTV is really pushing Genie, its whole house DVR. Their campaign with the snippy married couple has been extremely popular. Now there’s some new commercials created by Grey New York, with the trademark DirecTV humor. According to the first, cable is worse than the dentist sneezing in your open mouth or getting bitten by a tortoise at the zoo. According to the second (which features Workaholics actress Maribeth Monroe), cable is worse than sitting next to a laughing dummy on a plane or being caught in the middle of a student driver caused accident. And DirecTV is more amazing than simultaneously beating three brawny Scots at pub arm wrestling. Both commercials also have the very attractive Hannah Davis, who looks sort of like an Olson Twin, but isn’t.
