This Inspiring Duracell Commercial Starring Deaf NFL Player Derrick Coleman

Seattle Seahawks fullback Derrick Coleman has endured many struggles. He was picked on, had trouble with his coaches, and went undrafted after playing at UCLA. People said he should quit. But as Derrick explains “I’ve been deaf since I was 3, so I didn’t listen.” Derrick Coleman, the first deaf offensive player in the NFL, tells his inspiring story in this Duracell ad created by Saatchi & Saatchi New York. And apparently, a lot of people are watching and listening…more than 5 million YouTube views in less than a week. Trust the power within. Great work.

State Farm Now Has Aaron Rodgers With The Superfans

Well, football is back. Which also means a whole new boatload of football-related commercials. And the Aaron Rodgers “Discount Double Check” campaign for State Farm continues. And now it features Aaron interacting with the Superfans, famous for their loud interjections of “Da Bears” on Saturday Night Live in the early ’90s. I’m actually a little surprised that it took so long for this concept to come up. It’s mildly amusing…grill class. And Aaron Rodgers is befuddled, as always.

Dick’s Sporting Goods Has A Very Real Football Spot

Quietly, Dick’s Sporting Goods has made some great commercials. There was this Father’s Day spot from last year, and a very realistic baseball ad from the spring. Dick’s new football commercial is a similar, and very worthy successor to the baseball spot. The one take style is extremely compelling and in the words of Adweek, “it’s reminiscent of the actual process of playing football in a way that few ads—hell, few movies—really are.” It focuses on the action before the action we usually see. Very nice work.

AT&T Helps A High School Football Player Say Hello To The World

Pretty cool stuff here on this AT&T 4G ad. After a ridiculously athletic flip during a scrimmage is recorded, the video goes viral. As the video reaches around the world, it gains the attention of University of Oklahoma head football coach Bob Stoops, who suddenly wants to say hello to this promising player. And what’s best is that it’s a real video (or not…whatever, I still like it.)

Buffalo Wild Wings: Protect The Football!

Funny football commercials from Buffalo Wild Wings. It’s got a similar setup to their “More March” campaign. So remember that watching the game at Buffalo Wild Wings beats watching it with some wheatgrass whackos, your questionable home brewer friend, or a baby-toting couple. Protect the football!

This Is SportsCenter: John Clayton’s Epic Ponytail

John Clayton is ESPN’s resident football nerd. Depending on who you ask, he resembles a turtle or Mr. Peabody. Deadspin has wondered whether he has a ponytail. Now, ESPN is in on the gag too. In this latest commercial from the classic “This Is Sportcenter” campaign (created by Wieden + Kennedy New York), we see the real John Clayton. He’s a ponytail (skullet?) rocking metalhead who lives at home and aggressively eats Chinese food. Awesome. This one just came out today, but it’s already garnering a huge amount of buzz.

Dick’s Sporting Goods Has The Best Father’s Day Ad You’ll See This Year

What’s that in my eye? Oh, I was just cutting up an onion. Or maybe it’s my allergies. Gahh. This is a great commercial for Dick’s Sporting Goods. I know it’s specifically for Father’s Day, but it’s one that should continue to be aired after. #84!
