That Amazon Prime Band Practice Commercial With “Ave Maria”

If I had to pick one thing from this new Amazon Prime ad to be offended by, it would probably be that guitarist kid’s ridiculously stupid hair. But I’m not a Catholic, and judging by the comments on iSpot, a whole lot of Catholics are offended by the song choice of Franz Schubert’s “Ave Maria.” The readers of this blog tend to be an opinionated lot…so what say you? Also, anyone know who’s singing “Ave Maria” here? She has a beautiful voice.

Amazon Echo: This Grandpa Likes “Valerie”

Aww. Here’s a very cute and wholesome spot for the Amazon Echo. A young man gets his grandpa the new Echo Show, explaining that he can use it to play music or check the weather. Grandpa seems uninterested though. Grandson helps out around the house, while singing “Valerie” to himself. Turns out that grandpa likes the song that goes “Valerie” (Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse’s extremely fun version of “Valerie”), and the young man is pleasantly surprised.

Bed Bath & Beyond Presents “Offline Shopping”

Online shopping has had a massive impact on brick and mortar stores. I mean, I’m a retail worker at a store, and yet I still use Amazon all the time. So in their new ad, Bed Bath & Beyond pokes fun at millennial types who have grown overly accustomed to online shopping at all times. A young couple is redecorating their home and the woman seems to be befuddled by the concept of a brick and mortar store. The sales guy Ryan says it’s “offline shopping.” You can touch anything before you buy! And it turns out that you don’t need 2-day shipping when you can buy the thing and leave. Wow! I also enjoy how the guy in the couple is just on his phone the whole time, not paying attention to anything. That sounds like me. I’ll update this post with actor/actress info if I can find it.

That Amazon Prime Wardrobe Commercial With “All My Life”

I’d never heard of Amazon Prime Wardrobe before seeing this ad, but it’s unsurprising that Amazon has added another phase in its ongoing journey to world domination. With Prime Wardrobe, you can try up to 8 clothing items, and you only pay for what you keep. In this ad, a dorky-looking guy sits at a bar browsing Amazon, when he begins looking at a nice jacket. Then K-Ci & JoJo’s smash 1998 ballad “All My Life” starts playing, and the man turns and admires the suave guy sitting by him, who’s wearing that jacket. Is it someone else, or just the guy imagining how he’d look cleaned up? That answer comes when a woman approaches him. It’s his date, and the suave guy is his alter ego. But he’s still gotta get that jacket.

Amazon Shows A Puppy And Its New Family

Aww, this is a cute one from Amazon. A wife and kids surprise dad at home with a puppy. She orders puppy supplies and food on Amazon, even though he looks a bit reluctant to have a lil’ pooch. But in time, he’s cuddling in bed with the puppy. I’m not completely sure what kind of puppy it is…a YouTube comment says it’s most likely a Bernese Mountain Dog, which looks right. And the song playing is “(You) Got What I Need” by Freddie Scott (Biz Markie’s “Just a Friend” is an interpolation of it).

Audible Says To Listen For A Change

That soft, soothing piano music in the background of this Audible commercial…is that The Cure I hear? Yes, it is. It’s “Just Like Heaven”, one of their best songs.

Bears And Packers Play On An Amazon Stream

On Thursday September 28, the Bears and Packers will play a game on the Amazon Prime stream. It’s the first time Amazon’s had it…Twitter had the rights to streaming last year. So they have an amusing new ad to promote it. Amazon’s spot is faux-documentary style with a David Attenborough soundalike, and it shows literal (well, CGI) bears and packers playing football along an Amazonian stream. Pretty on the nose, and pretty damn funny too.
