Mazda’s Dreamy Balloon Commercial

This is a visually beautiful ad for the 2019 Mazda3. I mean, who hasn’t dreamed of floating away on a balloon? Haley Reinhart provides a lovely soundtrack with her cover of The Cranberries’ “Dreams.” It’s the second high-profile commercial in recent years to use of a cover of this song. I still think “Feel Alive” is a clunky tagline though. The woman in the spot is Argentinian actress and model Montserrat Godia.

RIght. Who’s the model? Nice nose.

  2. Forrest Chumley says:

I love this commercial! The music and video are magical. I don’t know when I’ve ever searched to find a commercial just so I could see it again. I have shared the YouTube link with friends, and it makes me happy whenever the ad comes on TV. Too bad most of the on-air runs are cut short! One wonderful thing about the commercial is that it pays brilliant homage to the 1956 French film “Le Ballon Rouge” (The Red Balloon) by Albert Lamorisse. Anyone who loves this Mazda commercial owes it to himself to watch the movie. I guarantee it’s magical.

  4. I think it’s Vivian Jovanni, former Days of Our Lives actress, but can’t be sure. She hasn’t done any social media for a long time.

  5. El Gordo says:

Sure wouldn’t want to drive a Mazda! The commercial is made to look like a single, connected dream, but when she emerges from the tunnel, she gently turns right, but the car gently turns left! Ouch.

  6. Wisconsinite says:

Personally, I loathe everything about this commercial. Ugly song, ugly model, ugly car. Ugh. I change the channel whenever I hear the first musical note.

Okay, I’ve seen 3 confirmations of this online since last week, she’s Argentinian actress Montserrat Godia.

    2. Her public facebook- https://www.facebook.com/MontseGodia

The ad is running so often that it I’m getting a bit tired of seeing it. Especially in ~15 sec versions. But I still think it’s beautiful and wonderfully well-crafted. Each to his own, but I’m surprised by the negative reaction of at least one contributor to this string.

  9. Alan says:

If you stop the commercial when there’s a close up near the end she looks just like the actress Jennifer Connelly. I know that she is getting older so maybe some parts of it is someone else.

  10. Ron B says:

Does anyone know where the outdoor scenery was shot?

  11. Forrest Chumley says:

Montserrat Godia says she is definitely the actress in the ad. On May 3 I sent her an email using the address at the end of the demo reel shared by dkwemm1. I got a reply from her this morning. She’s a real person, with a personality that matches her beauty!

    “Hi Forrest,

Thank you for your message. That’s actually me!

I’m glad you enjoyed the commercial. I really enjoyed rolling it.

Thank you very much for your comments 🙂

    Hugs from the South!,
    Montse.”

Wonderful of her to have replied, & thanks for giving me credit, more than happy to use my research skills to help! 🙂

Thanks for digging up both of those links you posted. I enjoyed both of them. I see that M. Godia’s role is acknowledged all over now. Strange they didn’t give her credit at the start. I was truly amazed when she replied.

Thanks! Cool that she responded too.

  12. Rod says:

I am so tired of these commercials I want to vomit!!!!!! I’ll never ever never buy a Mazda just because of the themes and constant repetitive same commercials for weeeeeeks!!!!! Aughhhhhhhh…………….,

  13. Forrest Chumley says:

Any sane person is tired of it, yes. I had similar feelings after suffering through months and years of United Airlines’ over-use of Gershwin. But I still love Rhapsody, and I think the Mazda 3 ad is a gem, worthy of honor and respect. Be sure to watch the full-length version. Has anyone in this string bothered to look up “Le Ballon Rouge”? One of my favorite movies of all time, and clearly the heart of this commercial.

  14. Michael Matteson says:

Anyone know where the final scene is filmed, where she get out of the car and views a mountain lake? The Alberta Rockies??? Possibly Lake Moraine there? Or??

  15. Diana says:

I find that commercial godawful – the visuals, the music, the concept… makes me want to die every damn time it comes on.
