The Maytag Man Says “It’s Gonna Be Maytag”

The date is April 30th, which means that it’s about time for one of the Internet’s favorite memes: It’s Gonna Be May. Now, Maytag gets in on the fun with their new ad. We hear NSync’s “It’s Gonna Be Me” as we see Maytag Men being constructed in something of an homage to NSync’s video. But of course, the “Me” in the hook is replaced by a “Maytag”, and it’s a promo for Maytag Month. I’m surprised this one didn’t come out a while ago, as the meme isn’t new. Is it clever, or does it officially kill the “It’s Gonna Be May” meme? If you watch “It’s Gonna Be Me” on YouTube, fully expect this to be the preroll ad.

The Toyota Corolla Puts A Spell On This Couple At The Car Wash

As Chaka Khan’s cover of “I Put a Spell on You” plays, car wash employees gawk at this Toyota Corolla. It’s a sleek looking car…is that why they’re transfixed? Well maybe, but there’s also a couple having some “fun” in the backseat. Because dirty is better than clean.

Monster Delves Into The Depressing Realities Of The Working World

Here are some new spots from Monster, the job site you may have forgotten existed (I kinda did). In the first, a boy who’s about to go to sleep asks his father what it’s like to work. Dad responds in a brutally honest fashion, which clearly reveals his dissatisfaction with the working world. And it might cause his son to have a juvenile existential crisis. In the second, we meet a woman named Sharon who’s slaving for many hours over her resume trying to make it perfect…only to hear the depressing fact that an employer will spend an average of 31 seconds looking at it. Sharon, the fact that your resume wasn’t automatically eliminated by an algorithm is a minor win, isn’t it? The bleak tone of these Monster ads reminds me of Halo Top’s brilliant campaign from earlier this year.

Amazon Shows A Puppy And Its New Family

Aww, this is a cute one from Amazon. A wife and kids surprise dad at home with a puppy. She orders puppy supplies and food on Amazon, even though he looks a bit reluctant to have a lil’ pooch. But in time, he’s cuddling in bed with the puppy. I’m not completely sure what kind of puppy it is…a YouTube comment says it’s most likely a Bernese Mountain Dog, which looks right. And the song playing is “(You) Got What I Need” by Freddie Scott (Biz Markie’s “Just a Friend” is an interpolation of it).

AT&T: Just OK Carnival Safety Is Not OK

The sketchy/unscrupulous carnival worker stereotype is a common one in American culture. In AT&T’s latest from its “Just OK Is Not OK” campaign, a mother and son are about to ride a ride and when mom asks about whether it’s safe, the carny says he assembled it OK. The kid asks what if something bad happens and the worker simply responds “we just move to the next town.” Oof. Judging from the brutal like/dislike rate on YouTube and the angry comments on iSpot, there are a lot of offended carnies out there. In case you were wondering, Matty Cardarople plays the carnival guy, and Anthony Naylor Jr. is the boy. Anyone know who plays the mom? Elsewhere, AT&T has another ad from the campaign featuring crappy “Just OK” bearded movers (Beardos Movers…haha). That one hasn’t gotten angry reactions (yet), so I guess movers are less defensive about their profession.

Apple Says “Don’t Mess With Mother” In This Stunning iPhone XS Ad

In Apple’s new Earth Day commercial, we see stunning visuals of our planet shot on iPhone XS. Just beautiful. Earth is amazing. And the heavy metal soundtrack really adds to the scene. The song is Megadeth’s “Last Rites/Loved to Deth.” I could watch this one over and over. And I probably will.

Nike’s New Tiger Woods Commercial

I really like how Nike anticipates every big moment in sports and makes their ads ahead of time, so they’re fresh and cathartic after the event. Anyway, Tiger Woods just won the Masters in a transcendent comeback story, so here is Nike’s spot. Good stuff.
