Apple Says Not To Bokeh A Child

Bokeh sounds like a made-up term, but it’s a real thing. This is just the first time I’ve heard it. Anyway, in this new Apple iPhone spot, a mom shows another mom a picture of their young sons. The boys are best buds. But uhh…what’s the blur in the back? The one mom seems outraged that her son Jacob is bokeh’d out. With the iPhone XR and XS Depth Control feature, you can “un-bokeh”, but it seems like the damage is done. This is a rare Apple ad with dialogue and no music. It’s also one that’s burning up YouTube, with 19 million views only a few days after being released. Anyone know who play the moms?

Geico: Motorcycle Fantasies And “Here I Go Again” Interrupt This Groom’s Wedding

This guy is cruising along in his motorcycle through a beautiful landscape (it looks like the Big Sur stretch of the California coast). He’s singing along to Whitesnake’s “Here I Go Again” . The motorcyclist looks like he’s having an amazing time on the lonely street of dreams. Cut to reality…and he’s still singing. Only now he’s saying his vows on the altar during his wedding. Whoops. Turns out he does know that his vows were a Whitesnake song. Haha. This one has been quite popular on YouTube, raking up more than 9 million views to date. Ted Jonas plays the Whitesnake-loving groom, and Sarati plays his annoyed bride.

Snickers: Pete Shows Up To A Heist With Fishnets On His Head

If you’re trying to rob an armored car, it’s a good idea to wear a disguise. Pantyhose over your head would work. But fishnet pantyhose…no. Unfortunately, that’s just what hungry Pete did. His old social studies teacher spots him too. Luckily though, Pete’s eating a Cream Snickers to deal with that hunger. Bright side, right?

That Pizza Hut Ultimate Cheesy Crust Commercial With “Baby Got Back”

“Oh my god, Becky! Look at that crust!” Haha. The actresses in this Pizza Hut Ultimate Cheesy Crust ad deserve raises for being able to do such ridiculous things with their eyes. Anyone know who they are? The song, of course, is Sir Mix-a-Lot’s “Baby Got Back.”

State Farm: James Harden Has A Microwave Mishap In Chris Paul’s Kitchen

James Harden decides to heat up some Chinese take-out in the microwave. This is a poor choice, since the metal handle causes the microwave to explode and a kitchen fire ensues. We cut to State Farm “agent” Oscar Nunez commenting to Chris Paul that it was a good thing he kept his fire extinguisher up to date. Turns out that it was Chris Paul’s kitchen. Whoops. James tries to deny that he was the one that caused the fire, but beard evidence suggests otherwise.

Mastercard’s Commercial With Camila Cabello, Coffee, Cupcakes, And “Havana”

Camila Cabello’s “Havana” is one of the catchiest songs released in recent years, so it’s no surprise to see it pop up in ads. We follow the lovely Camila Cabello as she walks down the street surprising people by paying for their coffee and cupcakes with her Mastercard straight from the smartphone. And when Camila suddenly drops her rainbow cupcake, someone pays it forward by getting her another one. It’s a cute and stylish spot that’ll also have you singing along. If you were wondering, the commercial was filmed in Manhattan’s West Village.

Burger King And “All By Myself”

Burger King’s Warhol ad was one of the most polarizing Super Bowl commercials in recent memory. It became known as “advertising for advertising people”…somehow being named #2 on Adweek’s best list, while also finishing dead last in USA Today’s Ad Meter. But now Burger King has a new spot that seems destined to be more well-liked by everyone. Eric Carmen’s overwrought “All By Myself” plays as the King dejectedly sulks along. He see-saws alone (is there anything sadder?). A dog won’t even play fetch with him. Riding a tandem bike solo predictably leads to a fall. The King finally rides a bus all by himself to a Burger King. There he gets a $6 King Box and reunites with his old friend Subservient Chicken. Nice to see those two back together again.
