Chantix’s Slow Turkey Commercial

“Cold turkey” is a weird phrase…have you ever wondered where it originates from? Here’s a possible answer. Anyway, in its new ad, Chantix introduces a leisurely turkey. Since it’s hard to quit smoking cold turkey, Chantix calls it “slow turkey.” And that slow turkey seems to be having a good time. He’s lounging in the pool, reading (History of Flight of course), mowing the lawn, and filling a bird feeder. And he’s slowly quitting smoking! Is Chantix tired of Ray Liotta?

I am compelled to watch the commercial to watch the turkey slowly going about his life. I have never smoked. The phrase “slow turkey” is ingenious; the turkey is realistic and attractive with his Mona Lisa smile, the activities are fun–filling a bird seed feeder!! Dipping a toe in the swimming pool to test the water!

My sister HATES your commercial. She is scared of birds.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 When it comes on, she covers her eyes or turns the channel. She asked, “Why they put those turkeys on the commercial? And where did that lizard come from?!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I’m almost on the floor, and I ferl terrible because she is in tears.

Look, the Turkey and Lizard has to go. My sister is terrified!!!😱😱😱😫😫😫😭😭😭😭😭…🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

In the commercial the bird is fixing soup, the corn is blue instead of yellow it’s looks like he’s eating a lot of chaotic!!!

  28. Tammy says:

It doesn’t make sense that the turkey has the pills in his “hand” and then puts them into the soup pot and then later uses a spoon to taste it and has one on the spoon. Can you cook with Chantix?

  29. Joyce ellison says:

I saw that too…..finally had to goggle it. If you watch closely there is a pill on the spoon when he takes a sip from spoon.

  30. Jim Speer says:

A wonderful ad that actually instills a connection with the product! Fancy that. The detail and flow of the birds wings and breast feathers are amazing, the physics of which would be near impossible unless the computers were assisted by someone in a turkey-feather costume. Am I right?

Frankly, the term ‘slow turkey’ strikes me as stupid. Nobody can agree where cold turkey came from, to start with. And then, ‘cold turkey’ vs ‘slow’ turkey makes about as much sense blue vs fourteen.

Show a factory farmed Turkey. Be realistic.

    • sue little says:

I agree that most turkeys are tortured and killed for humans to eat. However, I have some wild turkeys near my house that I spend much time watching. They do move and look very much like the Chantix turkey. I love him and the turkeys near my house. I am horrified by factory farming and volunteer at farm animal sanctuaries. The creator of the commercial did make this turkey move and look a lot like free wild turkeys. I think they sense that I just admire them and mean no harm.

  44. Mary Jo Kubiak says:

Love, Love, Love these commercials!!! Clever. Turkey is so life like. I will stop everything to watch these ads. The effects and details to him and in these commerclals are spectacular. (Great to see that you have given him thumbs and index fingers (hidden in his feathers) so that he can do all the things that he does. Just saw the new one on the beach and love to see that he is advancing his skills by driving himself home after a day at the beach. You all deserve awards for these over the top creative ads. Keep them coming!!

I just want the people involved with that Turkey quitting smoking commercial, to know that commercial makes my day! I love it! I was almost embarrassed to say I love this commercial. I stop what I’m doing to watch. He is so cute!

  50. Marcy T. says:

I’m still trying to figure out why each Slow Turkey commercial has a prop that’s shaped and colored to suggest a cigarette. The leaf blower, the walking stick, the oar, the paddle board. What is this subliminal messaging hoping to accomplish? Implying you can still sneak cigarette-y things into your daily activities?

  51. K Giroky says:

My husband and I stop what we are doing and watch every slow turkey commercial when they come on. They are just the best!! Whoever your ad agency is should win an award. Every detail in the commercials are covered right down to the dice on the rear view mirror. Please make more of these commercials. They are the best commercials we have seen in years.

I am also a never smoker. They make me physically sick. But I adore this turkey in all his iterations. Just saw the one where he goes shopping and gets on the bus. I just searched the internet to see if I could find a “slow turkey” doll or toy. I’d buy one, if I could find one. Best ad ever. My next younger sister died a couple of years ago from lung cancer, as did my Mom. This is an important issue for me.

  56. catgrrl says:

I, too, love the adorable slow turkey, and I love the great variety of the ads. It’s nice that they change them up with the seasons. I love these commercials so much that I’m considering taking up smoking so I can quit with Chantix! These commercials should get all. the. awards.
