That Skippy Commercial With “Uptown Funk”

Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk” was the #1 song of 2015. One of the tune’s lyrics was “smoother than a fresh jar of Skippy.” So it seems surprising that Skippy waited so long to capitalize on this reference, but they finally have in their new campaign from BBDO Minneapolis. Cooper Friedman plays the young protagonist, and I’m conflicted about whether he’s a cool kid or whether I want to smack him.

    Go ahead…SMACK HIM! Unfortunately, a perfectly fine commercial was ruined by the child actor that was selected to represent Skippy Peanut Butter. The underlying commercial message appeared to support anti-physical activity for children, again, by the child actor selected to represent Skippy Peanut Butter.

    Good God you people are judgmental. I think the kid is adorable. I just wanted to know if he actually caught the toast in mid air. And eating celery is a lot better than chips and dip.
