Windex’s Emotional “Story of Lucy”

Windex is probably one of the last consumer products you’d have an emotional experience with, but sometimes the most touching ads come from the least likely suspects. In its lovely “The Story of Lucy”, Windex’s role seems to take a backseat, only being really prominently featured in the beginning and end. It’s more a tale about the relationship between a man and his daughter. The spot was created by Energy BBDO, who after making content for Pearle Vision and Extra Gum, seems to have found a niche with emotional commercials for boring categories. The lovely song featured is Grace VanderWaal’s “Beautiful Thing.” Also interesting: Grace is only 13. Wow.

Capital One And Spotify Partner To Have Samuel L. Jackson Croon “Let’s Stay Together”

It’s not as good as Capital One’s March Madness campaign, but still pretty entertaining. The song, of course, is Al Green’s classic “Let’s Stay Together.” Take it away, Sam.

The University of Phoenix Shows A Compelling Story As Told To A Great-Granddaughter

The University of Phoenix has a spotty academic reputation. But damn, it can make a good commercial. A few months ago, UofP had a stop-motion animated spot depicting the struggles and triumphs of a single mother restarting her education…and it was a big hit. Another touching ad starred NFL star Larry Fitzgerald. Now, they have a compelling ad with an old lady talking to her newly born great-granddaughter. We see the elderly lady’s story of escaping the horrors of war as a young girl, emigrating to the United States, learning English, grinding, working, and persevering…until she’s become a success. Wow. Excellent work.
