Dentyne Ice Wants You To Flaunt Your Breath

These short spots from Dentyne Ice all show people who flaunt their breath in an awkward situation: sharing an elevator. The pregnant lady, balloon guy, and yawning woman all seem quite proud of their Dentyne Ice-nice breath.

Martin Sheen And Bill Pullman Swap Presidential Chat In These New Chrysler Commercials

I never watched The West Wing when it was on NBC, but thanks to Netflix, I’ve been able to see it. So it was a joy to watch Martin Sheen reprise his role as President Barlet and Bill Pullman revisit being President…Whitmore (had to look this one up) from Independence Day in these spots created by Wieden+Kennedy. I’d be more eager to vote for either of them than anyone who’s actually running this year.

The University of Phoenix Says Success Takes More Than Brains

So the song, performed by Roarke and based on The Wizard of Oz‘s “If I Only Had a Brain“, is pretty annoying (though check out some of her other stuff, it’s solid). And the University of Phoenix has a quite a spotty reputation. But I dunno, there’s something nice about this commercial showing UofP students grinding at their schoolwork to try to make a better life for themselves and their families. We can debate the last student shooing away the security guard at library closing time. Should we applaud her dedication or denounce her disregard of the poor security guard? You know, he’s probably got a family too.

Netflix Shows A Man That’ll Watch 500 Hours (And 500 More) To Impress A Crush

Valentine’s Day is on Sunday. It’ll always kinda suck, but it sucks a lot less when you’ve got someone to spend it with. Aww. Anyway, this cute new Netflix commercial that was released last week, seemingly right on time for Valentine’s. A man sees a cute lady at a DMV-type office mention Orange Is the New Black  is her favorite show. Smitten, he hurries home to binge on it, accompanied by an an amusing parody of The Proclaimers’ classic hit “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles).” He rushes back to talk to her, only to find out that she hasn’t seen the season 3 finale! One can only hope that much Netflix and chill happened between them afterwards.

Pantene Shows NFL Players Doing Their Daughters’ Hair

The NFL is a league with all sorts of PR problems. So it’s nice to see a commercial that demonstrates a softer side to NFL stars. And that’s exactly what happens in this Pantene spot, created by Grey. DeAngelo Williams, Jason Witten, and Benjamin Watson all give (and struggle to give) their young daughters a “Dad-Do.” Aww.

Snickers: Hungry Marilyn Monroe Is Willem Dafoe

One of last year’s most popular Super Bowl commercials featured an angry Danny Trejo who turned out to be a hungry Marcia Brady. Now Snickers is back poking fun at another iconic scene for the Super Bowl. Perhaps if Marilyn Monroe was hungry during the famous skirt blowing scene in The Seven Year Itch, she might have acted like a grumpy Willem Dafoe. Another good one from Snickers.

Heinz Has A Hit With Its Wiener Stampede Super Bowl Commercial

Ads with dogs tend to be very popular (provided that they also don’t have Sarah McLachlan). The reason is quite simple: dogs are cute. I’m fairly certain people will love “Wiener Stampede”, Heinz’s Super Bowl spot showcasing a bunch of hot dogs and costumed people dressed as condiments to put on them. It’s set to Harry Nilsson’s classic “Without You”, which now has a weird association for me because of The Rules of Attraction (NFSW link).
