Marshawn Lynch Gives Lip Service To Pepsi

Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch loves Skittles. He hates talking to the media. So Pepsi plays on his reticence in this new commercial. Marshawn seems to be speaking, but we hear a feminine voice. Of course, that’s because a woman is speaking, while Marshawn is just moving his lips.

McDonald’s: This Man Wakes Up Extra Early For An Egg McMuffin

He’s up at just after 5 AM to get that Egg McMuffin from McDonald’s. He’s driving…somewhere in the morning dusk. He pulls up to a tollbooth and gives the Egg McMuffin to the attendant. Aww. And then we find out that the tollbooth attendant is his wife and he got up that early to bring her breakfast. Awwww. McDonald’s is on a roll with sentimental commercials lately. The song is this ad is “Let It Breathe” by Water Liars. By the way, some but not all McDonald’s restaurants will have Egg McMuffins as part of the new all-day breakfast menu.

UBS Reminds Us That Retirement Is Creeping Up

I’m 29, and at times I feel like I’m much younger than I actually am. Then I go into a bar that’s blaring music and I suddenly remember that I’m not in my early 20’s anymore. According to financial experts, I should have started saving for retirement already. I haven’t done that, and a whole lot of my peers struggling in expensive urban centers where savings of any kind can be a pipe dream haven’t either. But we’re getting older (even if we don’t realize it) and retirement is approaching, as these subtle and funny spots from Publicis Switzerland for UBS demonstrate. The music in the car and scrolling mouse ones are my favorites in this excellent campaign.

Gorilla Glue’s Hilarious Halloween Ad

Gorilla Glue does a great horror movie spoof in this new commercial. We’ve got the preppy, letter jacket wearing guy sprinting for his life. He slips and the murderous, masked, ax-wielding villain makes his move. As the preppy guy pleads for his life, the ax man winds up and…his blade flies off. He feels like an idiot, apparently this isn’t the first time it’s happened. But then, a gorilla emerges and gives him a bottle of Gorilla Glue. Preppy guy suddenly lightens up and instructs ax man on the proper way to use Gorilla Glue. With the help of preppy guy and the gorilla, the ax is back in business. Of course, then comes the realization that murder is still on his agenda. Funny stuff. Preppy guy is played by Cameron Jebo.

Yogi Berra Confuses The Aflac Duck

New York Yankees legend Yogi Berra died last night at the age of 90. Although he was a Hall of Famer and one of the greatest catchers of all time, Yogi is probably best known in pop culture for his Yogi-isms. And here in this commercial, he totally befuddles the Aflac Duck at a barbershop. RIP Yogi Berra.

State Farm: A Father And His College-Bound Daughter Share A Selfie And A Goodbye

Though I’m closer in life to being dropped off at college rather than dropping off a hypothetical kid at college, this one still hits hard. I’m thinking many new empty nesters will get choked up by this State Farm commercial. The daughter is played by Andrea Ellsworth, and the father is Dan Martin.

Honda’s Stunning “Paper”

This visually engaging new ad from RPA tells the story of Honda on paper. Here’s more information from Adweek.

This Couple Has McDonald’s Quarter Pounders After Their Wedding

Apparently at weddings, there isn’t a whole lot of time for the newlyweds to eat dinner. They’ll spend their time schmoozing with friends, dancing, and having awkward conversations with those distant family members that they don’t really know but got invited anyway. The meal often takes a backseat. In fact, the whole wedding experience is so stressful (and also intoxicated) that a majority of couples don’t even have wedding night sex. Anyway, in this new McDonald’s commercial, we follow a newly married couple at their wedding. At the end when they are getting into the limo to depart, they open the door and find couple Quarter Pounders, fries, and a note from the bride’s dad. “There’s never time to eat at your own wedding. Love- Dad.” Aww. Pretty sweet actually, but hard not to be a little snarky. It’s nice that he didn’t get stuff off the Dollar Menu, but McDonald’s? Maybe they just like Quarter Pounders? Or maybe he’s just a little broke from paying for the wedding and feeding everyone else? I guess we’ll never know. The song playing is “Lean On Me” by Telekinesis. Jaclyn Hennell plays the bride, while Josh Salt is the groom.

Quaker Oats Says “Off You Go!”

It’s a nice ad that follows a young girl through her life, ultimately becoming an adult with a girl of her own. Along the way, Quaker Oats plays an important role. The narrative method of following a particular character as they grow up has certainly been done before, but it often leads to a sentimental message that is powerful and popular with the audience. The song is by Dylan Charbeneau.

This Couple’s Saving Scheme Pops At Micasa

Micasa is a Swiss furniture store that apparently competes with Ikea. They have a unique discount where you can get 5% off for each family member you bring into the store. Of course, as this young couple embarrassingly learns, they have to be actual people. Other spots in the campaign feature people trying out similar schemes with mannequins and dogs. Cute and funny work from Leo Burnett Switzerland.
